Our Story
Private Journeys was founded by Diane Terry, a lifelong traveler whose career has been shaped by curiosity, exploration, and a deep appreciation for the world's most captivating destinations.
Over more than three decades exploring Africa, Asia, and South America, Diane has built a reputation for designing journeys that go far beyond traditional travel. Her itineraries combine immersive cultural experiences, distinctive accommodations, and access to remarkable places most travelers would never discover on their own.
The origins of Private Journeys trace back to Diane’s early women’s expeditions, small group active adventures that brought together women seeking challenge, discovery, and connection to each other and the natural world.
As the company evolved, Private Journeys expanded to include highly tailored journeys for individuals, couples, families, and small groups seeking extraordinary experiences around the world.

Our Experience in Africa
Africa remains at the heart of our work. Through decades of travel across the continent, Diane and the Private Journeys team have built enduring relationships with lodge owners, guides, conservationists, and hospitality partners throughout East and Southern Africa. These relationships, combined with extensive firsthand knowledge of the region, allow our team to design immersive safaris that are highly personalized to each individual client.
Each year we spend months in the field scouting new properties, revisiting trusted favorites, and discovering exceptional experiences for our clients. From ultra-luxury lodges to simple fly-camp adventures, we personally test every property and experience we recommend.

A trip development fee initiates the design process and allows our team to create a fully customized itinerary tailored specifically to you.
